Rites of Spring; Nissan Series
Rites of Spring; Nissan is a series of mixed media paintings exploring an ancestral narrative, cultural identity, ritual and life cycle traditions, and the ancient Hebrew calendar. Nubian ibexes, Awassi rams, cultural objects and female nudes populate these paintings, with roots in biblical story and feminist cultural engagement. I use pattern and iconography from kelim carpets, created at the Bezalel School in Jerusalem in the early 20th century in many of these pieces.
